How to Use the File Holder for Quick and Easy Glide Path Preparation

How to Use Small Stainless Steel Files Attached to EndoHandle File Holder for Glide Path Preparation

  • Select a small K-file that is most likely to reach the apex with the least resistance (#6, #8, or #10).
  • Coat the file with a chelating agent to lubricate the canal and help soften calcified dentin.
  • Use short filing strokes and allow the file to gently work its way through calcifications and other impediments.
  • Irrigate frequently and repeat the process as needed.
  • Once working length is achieved, continue linear filing to smooth and define the glide path.
  • Use leverage filing against the canal wall, directing pressure away from the center of the tooth, to:
    • Pre-flare the coronal portion of the canal.
    • Enlarge the canal orifice.
    • Improve straight-line access.
  • Perform a final irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) to dissolve remaining pulp tissue and flush debris from the canal.
  • Remove the smear layer as appropriate before proceeding to rotary instrumentation.
  • The canal is now ready for rotary preparation with improved access, a defined glide path, and reduced resistance to instrumentation.
